About St. Mary School
The Sisters of Mercy founded Saint Mary Star of the Sea School in 1892. With values forged in religion and education that span over a century, we have established an educational foundation that is strong in tradition with alumni and family.
We are a Multicultural Catholic School made unique by its diverse student population. We are a caring, nurturing environment that integrates faith and knowledge. Our school is based on the Gospel values of faith, hope and love. We challenge our students to develop their God given talents to their fullest potential. Our goals include developing Christian values, identifying the self-worth of each child, developing an awareness of human needs and maintaining a contemporary curriculum.
Our staff is composed of dedicated laymen and women who are well educated and professionally prepared. Teachers are required to meet state and Diocesan certification requirements.
Our Goals
The inherent and basic purpose of Catholic Schools is to assure that Catholic truths and values are fully incorporated with the student's life and academic program. Doctrines and practices that are specific to the Roman Catholic Church are taught to all students during daily religion classes and very often included in the secular subjects. The goals of Saint Mary School are:
- To create a truly Christian environment with emphasis on the development of the whole child, spiritually, physically, emotionally, and socially.
- To instruct in the dogma and doctrine of the Catholic Church.
- To express concern, care, and respect for all God's creation through active service toward others.
- To develop faith and prayer life through the reception of the sacraments and participation in liturgical service experiences.
- To integrate instruction in the academic, technical, and fine arts with religious faith.
- To enable all students to love the living Christ within them.
- To help each student to relate this living Christ to his or her personal life and in relationship with others
- To share with our young people, the gospel message of Christ in an atmosphere of love, respect, and understanding.
